Here I sit in a period of introspection. A year has passed since I turned in my applications for law school. I also turned another year older today. Am I in a mid-life crisis? Probably, but nothing serious; This mid-life crisis is only a period of self-reflection on why I am doing this hellacious academic endeavor.
Why am I doing this? As Dean Karnasis, an ultra-distance runner said, "Because I can." But that's not enough, that answer is a basic answer and Dean Karnasis recognized this. I am putting myself through the "nine circles of inferno" of law school for several reasons. This degree will give me the opportunity to do many things in the future. The degree will give me the ability to make a comfortable living for my family. The future is the main reason I am doing this degree.
Dante Alighieiri, author of the Divina Comedia, embarked on a journey of self-reflection and discovery through hell, purgatory, and heaven. While I would love to make a wonderful analogy between law school and the Divine comedy, I will respectfully decline. Maybe in the future I will come up with a witty analogy. But it suffices to say, I am journeying through my own Divine Comedy.
P.S. To my Wife and Daughter, Thanks for traveling with me. Il Paradiso sara' fantastica!
For Reasons I only know why..........

You're doing great, Tyler. Your comments before and during class show that you're really understanding the material. I wish I had 1/2 of your motivation and ability to understand the subject at hand. You're going to do great on the finals! Your wife and daughter should be VERY proud of how you've done this first year.
