I thought I would drop a line or two about the cool things that you get to do when you're an intern. I know being out here in D.C. gives me different opportunities, but there are still cool things that you can do.
First, the research I do is really neat, because I know it will go toward making a difference. I am working with a nonprofit group that works with servicemembers affected by the "Don't Ask/Don't Tell" law. I know that what I research and look in to, will go to help repeal this law or make sure that the servicemember clients will be better served by this organization. That is just a really cool feeling.
Some D.C. cool stuff that I am getting to do: Research at the Library of Congress. I know it is just a library, but there is something very special about being in the LOC. I even have a special ID just for the library. How much fun is that. I went to a House subcommittee hearing. Sitting there, just listening to Representatives taking testimony on issues, was just the coolest thing in the world. I was actually watching the wheels of government work, and I know it is kind of "kid in a candy store" kind of awe and excitement, but that is how I felt. The last thing, is that i got to go to a dinner with the D.C. Bar. I made cool contacts and got my face known in that circle. I cant say I started deep "D.C. type politicking" but now a few people in this area know my name and face.
Ok, I just thought I would readers know what kind of cool things you can do on an internship.
Till later....
Cheers.
